Eddie Powell was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to young parents who later divorced, shaping a childhood split between Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Roseboro, North Carolina. In Lancaster’s inner city, he experienced the realities of hardship and loss, while in Roseboro, he found stability and purpose through his father, a dedicated family physician. Watching his father care for dozens of patients each day instilled in him a deep respect for hard work, perseverance, and excellence. His mother, a domestic violence counselor, modeled compassion and service, teaching him the importance of giving back to those in need.
During his adolescence, Powell attended Scotland School for Veterans’ Children, a boarding school in Pennsylvania that emphasized structure, discipline, and independence. Although challenging at the time, the experience became foundational in shaping his resilience and self-reliance. Returning to North Carolina for his later high school years, he recommitted to the values his father instilled—scholarship, responsibility, and service. Inspired by his father’s example and driven by a desire to make an impact, he pursued higher education at North Carolina A&T State University, followed by medical school at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. It was there, during his clinical rotations, that he discovered his passion for orthopedic surgery.
After earning his medical degree, Dr. Powell completed a surgical internship and orthopedic residency at West Virginia University, followed by an orthopedic trauma fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He went on to spend a decade as a traumatologist at a Level I trauma center in Greenville, North Carolina, before continuing his work at Level II centers in Florida and Wisconsin. In 2023, he played a key role in helping build a Level II trauma program in Albany, Georgia, where he now serves the South Georgia community—bringing his lifelong commitment to excellence, service, and impact full circle.
